- Improving physical facilities of Dhamma schools in war-stricken Welikanda area
A survey was made through a questionnaire administered by the Secretary of the Sasanarakshaka Mandalaya of the Welikanda Divisional Secretary division of the Polonnaruwa District of the physical requirements of the Dhamma schools in the area. Twenty five of the 34 Dhamma schools with a total student population of 3708 students responded.
The responses were whetted by a committee and a list was prepared by the DVF of the essential requirements. They are 100 chalk boards, 150 mats, 410 benches, 250 long desks for higher classes, 25 library cupboards, 100 tables (small) for teachers. The total estimated cost is Rs. 2,363,000.00.
On inquiry the DVF was informed that the most urgent need are chalk boards. The DVF had funds for only 42 chalk boards and these were specially made at a special price of Rs. 4,500 each.
Arrangements are being made to distribute these at a special function to be organised in Welikanda. The DVF solicits external support for this project
